We hope you are having an enjoyable Chol Hamoed Succos. We are finalizing plans for Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah and would like to share the details and schedule with you.
While we plan for a meaningful and spiritual Yom Tov, we would like to remind our members, that your safety is our priority. We will continue to have outdoor, and indoor minyan options. We continue to practice social distancing, and masks must be worn inside and outside at all our minyanim.
Please remain home if you feel ill or have been exposed to Covid-19 over the last 14 days.
We will have a minyan outdoors, and indoors in the main shul. The outdoor minyan will daven Shacharis at 8am, inside will be at 9am.
We are pre-selling the kibud for opening the Aaron Kodesh for Tefilas Geshem. If you would like to purchase this honor, please call or text 216-832-2814.
After Mincha on Shemini Atzeres, around 7 pm, we will sell the Kibudim for Simchas Torah.
The auction for Simchas Torah provides much needed funds for our shul’s operating budget. If you cannot be in shul with us this year and would like to pre-bid on an item, please call or text 216-832-2814.
After the auction we will proceed with Maariv and Hakafos (see details below regarding Hakafos).
We will have a minyan outdoors and indoors on Simchas Torah. The outdoor minyan will daven Shacharis at 8am, inside will be at 9am. The 9am minyan will begin Hakafos at approximately 10am. The children’s program (see flyer below) will begin following Kol HaNearim.
While in past years everyone has been accustomed to receiving an Aliyah in shul on Simchas Torah – this year we simply cannot safely accommodate everyone getting an Aliyah – we apologize in advance for this inconvenience. We will be auctioning off all the Aliyos.
There will be no kiddush in shul on Simchas Torah.
As you can expect, our Hakafos will look and feel different this year. Hakafos at night will be in the social hall. Weather permitting during the day time, the 9am minyan will attempt to conduct Hakafos outside, otherwise in the social hall. There shall be no physical contact during the Hakafos. Sifrei Torah will be brought out during Hakafos and those not carrying a Torah will sing in place. After each Hakafa we will place each Torah down on a table to avoid contact while transferring the Torah to another individual.
While our Hakafos will be limited, we hope we can achieve a heightened level of ruach through singing.
We have been cautious on not allowing children to attend Shul during Covid. However, we feel, with proper supervision, and with a limited time frame, children should participate and come to shul on Simchas Torah for Hakafos. Children must also wear masks. We are asking families to please be vigilant of their children so we can maintain a safe environment. We look forward to having our children back into our shul.
Children’s Simchas Torah Program
We will have a child/family friendly program on Simchas Torah day. See the flyer below describing this exciting new program! Masks must be worn,
We have tried to design a program that captures the essence of the Yom Tov, while prioritizing health and safety. Please join us if you can, but by all means if you are uncomfortable and you cannot join us for Yom Tov, you will be missed.
Wishing everyone a good Shabbos, Yom Tov, and Chag Sameach.
The Young Israel of Greater Cleveland
