Rabbi’s Message & YIGC Announcements for 10/9-11/2020
Shemini Atzeres & Simchas Torah
I hope your Yom Tov of Sukkos is going well. We are almost at Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah, and I am davening that everything should go well for all of us. We should all stay healthy and safe and be able to enjoy the last days of Yom Tov.
I assume everyone saw the e-mail we sent you about our plans for Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah. I would like to clarify a few points.
We listed the time for the children’s program as after Kol HaNearim. This year our Kol HaNearim will not resemble anything we have been used to in the past. Our intention is to call up to the Torah whoever bought the honor of Kol HaNearim. The rest of the minyan, including all the children, will remain at their seats and will join in the aliya from their seats. There will not be any congregating under a tallis as in other years. If fathers would like to put their tallis over their own children during that time, that would be fine and even encouraged.
After the Kol HaNearim aliya is completed, the children will go to the special children’s program, which, weather permitting, will take place in the tent in the shule parking lot. At the conclusion of their program they will receive the beautiful pekelach that were made for them. We approximate that the children’s program will be between 10:45 and 11:00 am. A very special thank you to Shirah and Shmuel Stern for their tireless efforts in putting together this wonderful children’s program.
We look forward to having our children join us for Simchas Torah, along with the adults. I apologize if I sound overly redundant if I remind everyone again of the importance of us being vigilant in watching ourselves and our children, so that the simcha we share together be spiritually uplifting, and at the same time unquestionably safe and responsible for all in attendance.
Have a wonderful Shabbos and Yom Tov.
