Rabbi’s Message & YIGC Announcements for 7/21/18
My wife and I will be spending this coming Shabbos and Tisha B’av with our children Rabbi Eli and Tziri Lob in Savannah, Georgia. They are celebrating the birth of a baby boy, so we hope to join them for the Shalom Zachor and Bris. If anyone has any last minute questions, please feel free to leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I hope all of the tefilos on Tisha B’av will be meaningful and inspiring. One program in particular I would like to stress is our 9:30AM Shacharis and kinos program on Tisha B’Av morning. We have a lineup of very talented presenters, who I am sure will make the kinos much more meaningful and inspirational.
There will only be one minyan Shabbos afternoon for Mincha. After mincha everyone will go home and eat their Seuda Shlishis. The tradition of eating a bread and egg meal on the floor on Erev Tisha B’Av is not done this year since it is Shabbos. A regular meal is eaten. You can eat a meat meal; there is no restriction on what you may or may not eat. One must finish eating by 8:53PM. After 9:44PM everyone should say “Baruch Hamavdil Bein Kodesh L’Chol. Then you can drive to shule. The bracha of Borei M’Orai HoAish is made. One can either do it at home; it will be made in shul as well. No bracha over bisomim this week. Don’t forget to change into your Tisha B’Av shoes before coming to shul on Motzai Shabbos. After Tisha B’Av, havdalah must be made before breaking our fast. Anyone who is not fasting, or must break their fast, should make havdalah before eating or drinking.
Next week I intend to continue our Shabbos afternoon class on the topic of Shabbos and Medicine.
Have a great Shabbos and a meaningful and easy fast.
Rabbi Naphtali Burnstein
