Dear Member,
As many of you may have heard, this past week the world lost one of the leaders of our generation, Horav Chaim Kanievsky Zt”l. I would like to include in my message a short message from the National Council of Young
Israel, that beautifully captures Rav Chaim.
“National Council of Young Israel mourns with Klal Yisrael the devastating loss of the Sar HaTorah, leader of our generation, Maran, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, Zt”l who passed away today on Shushan Purim.
HaRav Kanievsky Zt”l, was a link in the long chain of our Torah-Mesorah, the son of the revered Steipler Gaon and nephew of the Chazon Ish; his father in law was Rabbi Yoseph Shalom Elyashiv all four guided the Torah world from their homes in Bnei Brak and Yerushalayim.
Rav Chaim and Rebbetzin Batsheva Kanievsky, Zt”l, were the address for countless thousands of people, including many Young Israel rabbanim and YI member families; their guidance, counsel, and Bracha gave comfort to all who asked.
May the family and all of Klal Yisrael be consoled amongst the mourners for Tzion and Yerushalyim”
I was one of those Young Israel rabbanim who had the privilege to meet him on a few occasions, to receive a bracha and just watch him and feel blessed to be in his presence.
My wife and I will be in New York this Shabbos, celebrating the Shabbos Sheva Brachos of our children , Yoseph and Devora Burnstein.
Have a great Shabbos.
Rabbi Burnstein
